Heart is what we are - it is what we know and have always felt. Heart is what connects us to the Great Spirit and to all life.

Our heart is who we are as people.

My heart is who I am.

Your heart is you.

Sometimes we see inside the heart of others things we wish not to see. Sometimes, we see inside the heart of others, that which is inside our own hearts, that which we do not like to see reflect back.

When I look into the pure waters of the river I love so well, now, I see a woman getting older. I see grey hair and I see the lines in my face. I see the once youthful body I had, is no more.

I see what illness has done to my body. I feel what it has done to my body. Sometimes I feel bad about this. Sometimes sad.

But then I see inside my heart. I see the lessons I have learned. I see happiness and joy of life I have lived - the simple things - the real things in life.

In my heart I believe wisdom has grown and the fire that burns within all hearts - in my own heart is brighter. Sometimes it nearly goes out.

But then all I have to do is feel with my heart - to feel the wind and sun on my face, hear the birds sing - the sounds the wind carries as it goes through the tops of the trees. The sound of the flow of the life-giving waters of the clear, cold mountain brook. The squawk of the jay - the soothing sound of the mourning dove.

The new buds on the tree despite winter's reluctance to leave.

My heart feels good.

I can only change my own heart. I learned that lesson today.
